Sour Diesel lab report
What 1,071 state lab tests of Sour Diesel flower show beyond a single THC number: the odds of a strong batch, how published figures hold up, which terpene leads test by test, which strains share its terpene mix, how much the lab matters and how it reaches the shelf.1
Key findings
- 66% of 1,071 lab tests reached 20% THC or more; 26% reached 25%.1
- 3 of the 6 single published THC figures sit above the median lab result.1
- Limonene was the most abundant terpene in 40% of tests, β-caryophyllene in 39%; Leafly names caryophyllene as dominant.1,2
- Closest terpene mix among 17 strains: Chemdawg (96% overlap), then OG Kush (96%).1
- Ranks 8th of 29 strains by median THC (21.68%), with the 18th-narrowest spread of 24.1
- Lab medians differed by 7.89 points overall and by 6.95 within Maryland alone.1
- The highest-THC third of tests carried more terpenes than the lowest (2.09% vs 1.32% total).1
How likely is Sour Diesel to test above 20% THC?
66% of 1,071 state lab tests of Sour Diesel flower reached 20% total THC or more, about 7 in 10. 26% reached 25% and 1.2% reached 30%.1
The odds depend on where the flower was tested: 98% of California tests reached 20% (44 tests), against 36% in Massachusetts (45).1 Each state has its own growers, labs and testing rules, so the gap describes markets as much as plants.

Do published THC figures for Sour Diesel match the lab results?
3 of the 6 single published figures we checked sit above the median lab result for Sour Diesel (21.68%).1 The highest figure, AllBud at 26%, was reached by 22% of tests.1,3
Seed-seller and label figures sit close to strain-database figures: the typical seller figure was reached by 52% of tests, the typical database figure by 48%.1
The 2 published ranges cover between 19% and 63% of tests, from 17–26% (Weedmaps) at the most to 17–20% (Humboldt Seed Organization) at the fewest.1,4,5
None of these figures describes a particular jar; only the certificate of analysis for that batch does.

Which terpene leads Sour Diesel, test by test?
No single terpene owns Sour Diesel: limonene was the most abundant in 40% of the 167 tests that report individual terpenes and β-caryophyllene in 39%, with β-myrcene at 13%.1
Ranked by median level instead, β-caryophyllene comes first.1 That is why a profile built from averages can name a different lead than a test-by-test count.
Leafly names caryophyllene as the dominant terpene.2 In the lab tests it is a close second: β-caryophyllene led in 39% of tests and limonene in 40%.1
109 of the 167 tests come from Nevada labs, so the shares describe mainly Nevada flower.1
| Terpene | Tests where it led | Share of tests |
|---|---|---|
| Limonene | 67 | 40% |
| β-caryophyllene | 65 | 39% |
| β-myrcene | 21 | 13% |
| α-humulene | 8 | 4.8% |
| Terpinolene | 6 | 3.6% |

Which strains have the most similar terpene mix to Sour Diesel?
By the overlap of their typical terpene mix, the closest strains to Sour Diesel are Chemdawg (96%), OG Kush (96%) and Wedding Cake (93%); the least similar of the 17 strains compared is Durban Poison (41%).1
How it works: each strain's median level of eight terpenes is expressed as shares of their sum, and the overlap is the part of the mix two strains have in common (identical mixes score 100). Only strains with at least 30 tests reporting individual terpenes are compared. This compares lab chemistry only; it does not predict how a strain feels.
| Strain | Overlap | Lead terpene (by median) | Tests with terpenes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chemdawg | 96% | β-caryophyllene | 389 |
| OG Kush | 96% | β-caryophyllene | 127 |
| Wedding Cake | 93% | β-caryophyllene | 1,383 |
| Gelato | 91% | β-caryophyllene | 381 |
| Granddaddy Purple | 91% | Limonene | 55 |
| Durban Poison (least similar) | 41% | Terpinolene | 236 |

How strong is Sour Diesel compared with other strains?
By median total THC, Sour Diesel ranks 8th of the 29 strains in our lab dataset (21.68%), between Blueberry (21.91%) and Gelato (21.49%).1 By the share of tests at 25% or more (26%), it ranks 7th.1
The middle half of its tests spans 6.30 points (19.00%–25.30%), the 18th-narrowest spread of the 24 strains with at least 30 tests: results under the name vary more than for most strains.1
| Rank | Strain | Median THC | Middle half | Tests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6th | Cinderella 99 | 22.31% | 19.48%–24.15% | 598 |

| 9th | Gelato | 21.49% | 18.90%–24.63% | 1,845 |
| 10th | OG Kush | 20.87% | 18.06%–23.36% | 379 |

Does the testing lab change Sour Diesel's THC result?
Among the 14 labs that tested Sour Diesel at least 20 times, the median result ran from 19.08% (Lab F, Massachusetts) to 26.97% (Lab I, Washington), a gap of 7.89 points.1
The gap is not only between states: within Maryland, the 4 labs with 20+ tests differed by 6.95 points (19.69%–26.64%).1
Labs test different growers’ flower, so a gap is not proof that one lab reads high; it shows how much the number on a label can depend on who grew and who tested the batch. Labs are anonymized here; the downloadable test file names them.
| Lab | State | Tests | Median THC | Share at 20% or more |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lab A | Maryland | 265 | 26.64% | 79% |

Does higher-THC Sour Diesel also have more terpenes?
Mostly. In the 739 tests that report both, the third with the most THC (24.67% or more) had a median of 2.09% total terpenes, against 1.32% for the third with the least (20.13% or less).1
The pattern held in 2 of the 3 states with at least 30 such tests (Maryland up, Nevada down and California up).1 Total terpenes measure aroma compounds by weight; the comparison says nothing about effects.
| Tests from | Tests | Lowest-THC third | Highest-THC third |
|---|---|---|---|
| All states | 739 | 1.32% | 2.09% |
| Maryland | 572 | 1.23% | 2.22% |
| Nevada | 109 | 1.84% | 1.34% |
| California | 38 | 1.65% | 1.89% |

How common and how pricey is Sour Diesel on dispensary menus?
In our Weedmaps snapshot of 27 US markets (Oct 3, 2026), 574 store listings within 50 miles of each market's center carried Sour Diesel flower, in 23 of the 27 markets: the 2nd most of the 16 strains we track.10
Its median exact-eighth price was $47.08 in New York (typical other strain: $33.90), $34.00 in Los Angeles (typical other strain: $27.50) and $20.00 in Detroit (typical other strain: $15.00).10 That makes it pricier than the typical strain in every market we could compare.
| Market | Sour Diesel (priced eighths) | Typical other strain | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| New York, NY | $47.08 (237) | $33.90 (9 strains) | +$13.18 |
| Los Angeles, CA | $34.00 (93) | $27.50 (10 strains) | +$6.50 |
| Detroit, MI | $20.00 (15) | $15.00 (4 strains) | +$5.00 |

What this data cannot tell you
- A particular jar: lab results describe flower sold under the name across 8 states from 2014 to 2024; only a batch’s own certificate of analysis describes that batch.1
- Effects: these are chemistry measurements. None of them predicts how a strain will feel to a particular person.
